Landscape Lighting For Backyard Events

With many vacations now complete, and with many, many more days left to go before the next holiday on Labor Day, summer has now become a time of warmth and weekend fun at home.  With July now underway, and with many summer events now being planned all over the city, ILD stands ready to help our clients make the most of summer nights with lighting system checks, necessary repairs, and recommendations for tree lighting upgrades.

If you did not have a chance to have your pool and patio lighting system checked prior to the fourth of July, please feel free to contact us this month to schedule a outdoor lighting maintenance check.  Most of your guests will spend a good portion of the evening around the edge of the pool.  The fact that many of them will not actually get in the water makes it even more important to make sure that ever light both in and around the pool is working safely and according to manufacturer specs.  People will notice defective outdoor garden lighting equipment more when they are milling around than when they are splashing around, so don’t let your patio’s superb appearance be diminished by inadequate lighting or dark patches of shadow.

One option would be to simply check things out and invest in a landscape lighting maintenance contract that would include future system checks, service calls, and replacements at discounted, budgetary rates.  That’s one option that many Houston homeowners are now starting to really think about because in the long run in saves a great deal of time and money in contrast to waiting until something does break to call in and schedule repairs.

Another option to consider is investing in more energy efficient lighting.  Outdoor fluorescent lights and outdoor LED pond lighting can create spectacular effects on a landscape while simultaneously using far less power than your existing incandescent landscape lighting fixtures.  Do not assume that just because you have already purchased low voltage lighting equipment that the low voltage factor alone guarantees maximum power savings.  Think about how much more power costs you will save if you run low voltage LED lights in places like your natural pond, fountain, swimming pool, reflecting pond, or custom garden.

Also, don’t forget about that pathway lighting we mentioned.  Lighting pathways with bright, expensive lights is a waste of money and often ruins the romance of a summer night.  Instead, let us calculate just how much light you need for safety and find you some super efficient bollard or garden pathway lighting fixture whose lamp wattage is lower than you are currently using and whose ambience is more apropos to up lighting flowers, hedgerows, and walkways.

Finally, if you are currently using mercury vapor tree lights, please have us check these fixtures for you.  The effects they create are quite remarkable, but they do need special care and service from time to time.  Don’t let one of these magical lights go out on a new moon night when you need them for artificial moonlight.
