Sometimes an older home needs electrical remodeling simply to make things work better and to reduce the risk of electrical failure and/or fire.  During the mid twentieth century, many builders used aluminum to wire home electrical systems.  While aluminum itself is not a fire hazard, the ends of aluminum wire often burn out and disconnect from circuit panels, causing fluctuations in lighting and short circuits in outlets.  If you live in an older home with aluminum wiring and notice that your lights often flicker, call ILD immediately and let us troubleshoot for possible shorts in the walls, outlets, and panels.  If we find a short resultant from aluminum wiring, we can remodel selective electrical components without having to replace 100% aluminum wire in the home.  Using a process called pig tailing, we attach copper wire to the ends of the aluminum to create a more secure and stable connection.  We can also remodel your electrical plugs and switches to make them fully compatible with aluminum wiring.   While we are there, we can also install outdoor security lighting as part of your electrical remodeling package to ensure that even an old fixer upper enjoys the same level of safety as newer homes with contemporary security features.
