Cabinet Lighting Consultants
When you invest in cabinet lighting, you are actually re-investing in both your cabinet and its contents. It is very important that you choose the right source of light, because if you don’t, both your cabinet and its contents will diminish greatly in appearance.
With so many choices available to you, you may feel overwhelmed when it comes time to pick out the fixtures and lamps that will best suit your home lighting plan. That’s where Illuminations Lighting and Design comes in.
We have a systematic approach to cabinet lighting services in which we narrow down the options to help you determine the very best choice for you.
The first thing we look at is the actual age of your cabinet. If you are building a new home, then all of your cabinets are technically classified as new constructions. This is every important to us, because we have access to linear cabinet lighting fixtures that are designed to be built into the cabinet itself at the time of construction. This results in a more seamless presentation than trying to install a fixture after the fact when the build out is complete.
If, on the other hand, you have existing free standing cabinets that you are moving into your new home, we have access to equipment that is designed to mount in various concealed positions to create luminance from an unseen source.
There are other things to consider as well, such as the very nature of the cabinet itself. If it is purely decorative lighting, then color temperature is going to be the most important thing to consider when it comes to choosing cabinet lighting festoon lamps. The contents of your display all have different colors and shades of color. The light that shines upon them must bring these colors out richly without “flattening” their appearance.
We also take a look at the shelves within your cabinet. If they are made of glass, we will need to use vertically mounted cabinet lighting equipment that will run up the interior sides of the cabinet. If your shelves are made of wood, but have no reveal in the front behind which we can conceal a linear strip, then we have some very creative methods of installing horizontally mounted strips for lighting antique cabinets.
The presence of glass doors is another major factor in cabinet lighting. Glass traps heat very quickly, so any lamps that are burning within the interior of the display will heat up very quickly. Unless you have a way of reducing the heat, you will only be able to leave your lamps on for so long.
Thankfully, we have located new LED cabinet lighting lamps that are so energy and heat efficient that, for the first time in history, a completely heat free light source is now available. The color temperature options in these lamps range from ultra cool to ultra warm, allowing them to mimic incandescent and xenon sources very closely.
Such lamps can operate continuously behind a glass-door cabinet used to showcase fine kitchen cookware or priceless antiques. They are also ideal for shelf lighting applications where rare, priceless books with delicate bindings and pages must be protected from heat and UV radiation at all costs.
