From stuffed animals to subwoofers, with children grown, this family updates a forgotten playroom into a well-used home theater.

Electronic House Magazine features Illuminations Lighting Design home theater in December 2007 issue. The article titled "Playroom Transformed into Home Theater" describes how a simple kid's playroom was converted into a high tech home media room. This home theater system installed by Illuminations Lighting combines the highest professional grade equipment with a custom configuration built according to the specific dynamics of an individual home. While less expensive retail equipment offers a tempting do-it-yourself savings, a home theater from Illuminations Lighting Design represents one domain that requires maximum investment for full enjoyment and satisfaction.

Playroom Transformed into Home Theater

From stuffed animals to subwoofers, with children grown, this family updates a forgotten playroom into a well-used home theater.

This
bonus room functioned admirably for many years as a child’s playroom. Stuffed with games, toys and a 24-inch analog TV, it had everything a kid could want. But that was then. Now that the owners’ kids are 10 and 15, the family craves a space that’s more grown up. Illuminations Lighting Design of Houston, TX, had just the thing. The home theater design and home automation installers would convert this outdated 20' x 24' extra room into an age-appropriate home theater and gaming mecca. The bookcase was reconfigured slightly to make room for an 84-inch-wide Stewart Filmscreen screen, three Vienna Acoustics Grand Series Haydn bookshelf speakers (the two rear surround speakers were placed on stands near the back of the room), and two REL R-Series sub woofers. Also tucked inside were a high-def cable box, Marantz 5.1 surround-sound receiver and DVD player, Sony VCR, APC H-Series power conditioner with surge suppression and battery backup, and PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 gaming consoles. Phantom LED light strips were installed as showcase lighting and to provide a home theater lighting source when watching movies or relaxing in the room.

A specially programmed Universal Remote Control MX350 handheld controller lets the family switch between movies and games with the touch of one button. No matter what
digital media the family chooses to watch, the ceiling-mounted Runco CL-420 video projector is up for the challenge. During daytime viewing, the machine receives a helping hand from motorized Lutron blackout shades that lower over the windows on command from the MX350.

For clientele who have an ardent interest in stereo or high fidelity sound reproduction the decision to invest wisely in a media system design are never disappointed when they turn to ILD to make their dreams for a home theater system become a tangible, personalized reality tailor-made for their home and individual lifestyle.

Whole House Surge Protection is the only sure way to protect all your electronic investments.

Why is whole house surge suppression the very best safeguard against the hazards of transient surge?
Because technology has evolved to the point that virtually every electronic device in today’s home contains a printed circuit board like the type found in computers. Professionally installed
whole house surge suppression is the only reliable safeguard against catastrophic equipment failure. Whole house surge suppressors also safeguard against fluctuations of power in rural areas known as “dirty power.” These fluctuations occur due to long distances between small communities and generating stations, and they will often wreck havoc on kitchen lighting systems, satellite dishes, kitchen appliances, home audio automation, and of course, computers.

Many people remain unaware of these hazards, believing that retail power strips traditionally used to shield computers and printers are all that is required to protect sophisticated electronics. This is a dangerous myth to place faith in, because in today’s world virtually every subsystem coming from the service provider is a potential threat that requires whole house surge suppression to counter.

Can I install a whole house surge suppressor myself?
You can but, we do not recommend this. These devices are difficult for the self-trained electrician to correctly install — and almost impossible for the novice. It is better to invest in the services of a
certified electrical contractor such as ILD who has the training and experience required to choose the right device and to configure it for optimal home protection. This brings home electrical generators, commercial grade service and technology to the residential environment in the safest and most affordable fashion when one considers the long term benefits that result.

Illuminations Lighting Design offers the best whole house surge suppression technology combined with over 20 years of training and experience.

Exactly what does whole house surge suppression protect?
The most important thing it protects is the electrical panel itself that controls and modulates the distribution of power into the house. Many homeowners are surprised when they learn that newer
electrical service panels also contain printed circuit boards just like computers. If the voltage spike of a transient power surge reaches a panel, the panel itself can burn out and thus destroy devices and systems throughout the home.

Illuminations Lighting and Design can minimize the likelihood of catastrophic power loss with sophisticated
whole house surge suppressors engineered to block transient surge from dirty power and lighting. Our typical size whole house surge suppressor has been will block fluctuations of up to 300,000A and is only 50% the size of equivalent devices.

Larger and smaller units are also available based upon the size of the panel and the total capacitance of the
new home wiring systems and installed components. Most people in larger homes now have up to four televisions and one wall-sized plasma TV. We often enter such dwellings to find that the plasma TV is plugged directly into the wall—and therefore waiting to be the first device destroyed without effective whole house surge suppression to protect it. Other home automation systems like security alarms, satellite dishes, and telephones also must be protected with a low voltage surge suppressor for each component.

Whole house surge suppression is not only necessary, but mission critical for any homeowner using home automation or home theater equipment.
Home automation devices are in actuality sophisticated electrical subsystems operating within the homes overall electrical system. Calculating the precise level of whole house surge suppression needed to safeguard everything from electronic equipment to lighting control programming requires not only certified electricians, but also a team like Illuminations Lighting and Design with an entire division and successful track record in the discipline of home automation itself.

Illuminations Lighting and Design not only installs whole house surge suppressors, but we can also perform any electrical upgrades relevant to safety and industry evolution.
As a multi-specialist consulting firm blending the technical and the aesthetic, we strive to be all things to all residential clients with a level of commercial sophistication that makes us the leader in multiple disciplines throughout Houston and Greater Texas.

Illuminations will transform architecture and property into a virtual reality world of Christmas and specialty lights.

As a distinguished lighting consulting firm and our single-vendor source of commercial grade holiday lighting fixtures, we stand as a unique position of both industry mainstay and industry leader. With history and experience, we can accommodate tradition. With technical readiness, we can drive evolution forward. Outdoor holiday lighting installation no longer requires limitations to be environmentally sound and conservation-focused. New LED fixtures have emerged on the market and now make it possible for us to offer our commercial and hospitality clients extremely large lighting displays with limited circuits and only minimal power. This is a key benefit even for large hotel chains and resort facilities with enormous budgets that can afford the very best in outdoor tree lighting equipment. Regardless of revenue, funds are always better invested in impeccable design and superior technology than on consumable, non-renewing energy. LED holiday lighting brings outdoor landscapes to new levels of light and variety. We have literally thousands of ornamental, accent lights, decorative, and task-oriented fixtures in both specialty and traditional designs that will transform architecture and property into a virtual reality world of Christmas and specialty lights.

For
resorts and hotels it is a convenience to have premier landscape, Christmas tree lights, and various architectural keynotes brought to the forefront with affordable outdoor holiday lighting. For commercial properties in the corporate world, however, even many larger budgets have to when investing a small fortune for seasonally relevant design work. For these entities, it is vitally important that any design we install incorporate two key elements to produce justify their investment: ease of operability and long equipment life. Since outdoor holiday lights showcase a corporate facility with a visible presence, it is necessary that they be left on longer at reduced costs and that they require only a minimum of hands-on operation. Outdoor maintenance crews on campus normally do not have the time or expertise to operate and maintain these systems, and many employees are often on vacation at this time of year. For this reason, ILD installs the highest commercial grade equipment that is both weather resistant and capable of enduring multiple setup installations over the years to come. To improve user friendliness, we uses sophisticated timers and dimmers that automate outdoor holiday lights so holiday events and visiting strategic partners can enjoy the lights as a self-sustaining aesthetic that requires no visible human interface to control.

Integrating the new with the traditional is not something every
lighting company can accomplish. Not only does it require superb knowledge of electronics and safety, but it also involves the ability to apply creativity on a practical level. One of the many elements that differentiate ILD’s holiday lighting installation methods is our ability to minimize physical wiring. Physical wires pose a number of problems on several levels. The risk of short-circuiting poses both reliability issues and possible safety concerns, and from and aesthetic perspective, they are also something of an eyesore. By contrast, our professionals normally substitute standard wires with custom wiring harnesses that support fixtures but hide their own appearance. Our holiday lighting themes are therefore cleaner, and they appear to the observer to be linked by rays of light rather than insulated copper. Specialized lighting equipment and advanced electrical installations of this sort are not commonly available through lower grade manufacturing channels, and it is almost completely absent on the open retail market. In order to make our highly customized and painstakingly installed displays not only shine—but last over time—we must use the very highest quality UL Approved, commercial grade fixtures, lamps, and supports.

To learn more about specific equipment or consulting services that could enhance your next holiday event, please
contact us today at 1-800-863-1184 to request a consultation and preliminary design proposal.

Superior Hotel Interior Design Lighting by Houston's Illuminations Lighting Design

What accounts for ILD’s rapid rise in the hospitality lighting and hotel interior design industry?

Our
hotel interior lighting designs are generated from of a fusion of client vision, hotel clientele sensibilities, superb lighting materials, and a layered synthesis of task and accent lighting that supports the individual nuances of a specific location or theme. Consequently, none of our lighting designs are ever offered on a generic level. Instead, they are developed through extensive consultation with the client and, when requested, supportive electrical design work implemented in the pre-construction planning phase by our own team of licensed electrical contractors.

What two aspects of your service most distinguish you from your competitors?

We are more comprehensive on two significant levels. First, our team brings to the table a level of cross training and interdisciplinary partnership that make our hotel interior designs both more complex and more attractive. Because the team works routinely in a number of high profile disciplines such as architecture, fine art design, and landscaping, resort hotels in particular rely upon us to create a unity of exterior and interior lighting themes. We achieve this blend of experience by combining
low voltage and high voltage lighting control systems for outdoor and architectural lighting to create the appearance of a grand entryway of light that focuses the eye of the guest toward the interior of the building. It is here that the most sophisticated aspects of our custom lighting solutions then come into play around the individual particulars of hotel interior design. Factors such as color scheme, furniture style, ceiling height, natural light sources, and fine art and statuary are critical factors we take into consideration when drafting our preliminary proposal for custom lighting.

Secondly, hospitality clients regard us as one of the most
detail-oriented lighting design firms in our industry. Hotel interior design lighting is very unique and complex. It requires the layering of light in such a fashion as to complement and support decorative themes. Illumination must simultaneously enhance and facilitate the experience of guests. It relies heavily upon a fusion of accent lights to keynote interior decorum and upon layered, indirect lighting combinations to create an even wash of bright light in areas of heavy transit and human activity. Other areas require a wide range of ambient, mood, special effects, and functional architectural lighting. Fine art lighting as well is one of our main areas of expertise, and we have access to display lighting fixtures and specialty art projectors that can bring museum quality art lighting to the lobby of any resort, country club, or hotel in the world.

ILD continues to rise and emerge as a leader in
country club lighting, resort landscape, hotel interior design, restaurant lighting and casino lighting industries. We also lead the way in providing tailored lighting maintenance contracts, relamping and retrofitting existing lighting equipment with cost-cutting energy efficient lighting products and services.

Call 1-800-863-1184 to
schedule a preliminary consultation, view our extensive lighting blog or visit us online at http://www.illuminationslighting.com/. We have a design waiting for you!
